Researchers have noticed that the moon is slowly decreasing in size. This is what Nature Geoscience writes.
For several hundred million years, the circumference of the moon has shrunk by 45 meters. This became known after comparing these seismographs, which recorded changes during the expedition in the 1960s – 1970s, and the 2010 geological maps.
It is noted that seismic activity continues to act on the moon, as a result of which the core cools down and the moon itself is shrinking.
This phenomenon leads to the “moonquakes” and the emergence of new cracks on its surface.
